At 2,000 to 2,400 meters above sea level, in the Bensa highlands of Sidama, the cherries take their time. To us, patience tastes like a fully washed G1 lot from Ardent Coffee Export, clean cacao, bright tropical fruits, juicy strawberries, and a floral finish that earns its stay.

The Ethiopia Ardent Sidama Oloncho G1 comes from Ardent's ShantaGolbe processing site in Bensa, which is one of the highest-altitude stations in Sidama, where between 1,000 and 2,000 farmer-families contribute to a harvest window that runs from November through January. Ethiopia's G1 grade demands fewer than three defects per 300 grams and a cup score above 85, with flavor weighted more heavily than appearance. What that standard produces, at this altitude and through a careful washed process, is a cup defined by fine acidity, clean florals, and notes of citrus and stone fruits. It's the kind of coffee that asks you to slow down, and makes the ask easy to say yes to.
Ardent Coffee Export was founded in 2017 by Ashenafi Argaw, who is now the first president of the Specialty Coffee Association of Ethiopia, with the belief that the supply chain doesn't end at the washing station. In Bensa, Ardent runs the Ardent School for children of local producers, a children's center currently caring for over 70 orphans, widow support programs, and rural road construction projects that help farmers actually get their coffee to market. They pay above-market premiums, maintain full traceability, and have produced lots that scored 97 points on international review. We source from Ardent because the coffee is excellent and because the people behind it, like us, also decided that their community was part of the product.
